Pam's Grotto Waterfall

Pam's Grotto

Fort Douglas, AR - 0.8 Miles - Easy - Moderate Out & Back

Pam's Grotto is one of those hikes that I have been putting off for some time now. It's popularity results in a packed trail more often than not. The day we visited, we were running short on daylight, and knew that we could complete the walk in a short amount of time.

Let me start by saying, pictures do not do justice for the massive grotto that lies at the end of this trail.

The short walk to the grotto follows the alongside an impressive bluff line that is commonly used by rock climbers. There were a couple of crevices along the bluff that were deep enough to walk in comfortably.

There is a short, but steep decent down into the grotto. The boulders under and around the overhang are huge!

We visited on December 28th of 2022, and there were still large icicles resting on the overhangs from the ice storm that had occurred a few days prior. As we reached the warmest part of the day, the ice began to melt and fall, so we had to be careful of where we walked.

If your embark on this hike and find yourself with a few extra hours, I highly recommend visiting Haw Creek Falls Recreation Area. From the campground you can view Haw Creek Falls and take the short hike to Pack Rack Falls and beyond. You can read about my visit to Pack Rat in a separate entry.
